Saudi Arabia end ties with Yemen for sympathising with Qatar

Saudi Arabia has said on Saturday that it has ended all ties with Yemen for sympathising with Qatar.

Saudi Arabia made this announcement after Yemeni Foreign Minister told the media that “the Gulf countries’ decision to end ties with Qatar is not in the right direction” even if the country is at fault.

The Minister went on to explain that, there are procedures used to address such diplomatic issues before sanctions are placed.

Saudi Arabia says this statement signifies Yemen’s stand on the issue at hand and would not entertain anyone supporting terrorism indirectly by supporting Qatar.

“This tells us Yemen’s stand on the issue at hand. This is a clear indication that Qatar is being supported by Yemen despite enough evidence of them supporting terrorism.” - the statement said.

Other countries in the Gulf region are yet to respond to Yemen’s foreign minister.

Saudi Arabia has banned people from publishing expressions of sympathy towards Qatar and will punish offenders with a jail term.

In a statement released on Wednesday, UAE’s Attorney General Hamad Saif al-Shamsi said sympathising with Qatar was a cybercrime punishable by law.

Bahrain has also said that people sympathising Qatar would face jail term.
